The Hungarian Parliament adopted the proposal on the rules of corporate social responsibility, which take into account environmental, social and social aspects and serve to promote sustainable financing and uniform corporate responsibility, and on amending other related laws on 12 December 2023. With the new regulation, the legislator aims to lay the foundations for domestic sustainability reporting and supply chain due diligence obligations and comply with the European Union's sustainability guidelines.
The personal scope of the law will be extended in several steps to large public interest companies headquartered in Hungary and to all other large companies and small and medium-sized public interest companies. A significant part of the new regulation will enter into force on 1 January 2024, while certain rules concerning chartered accountants will enter into force on 1 January 2025. Furthermore, the exercise of the authority, the Supervisory Authority for Regulated Activities, will be able to impose administrative fines from 1 January 2026.<\/span>The provisions of the adopted law concern two main areas: the introduction of due diligence obligations for sustainability purposes and the preparation of CSRD implementation.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In the European Union, Directive 2022\/2555 NIS2 (Network and Information Systems Directive 2) was published on December 27, 2021, and entered into force shortly thereafter on January 16, 2023.<\/p>

EU member states must transpose the NIS2 Directive into their national legal systems by 17 October 2024. Organisations will have to comply with the national provisions adopted and published in order to comply with the directive. All medium-sized and large companies within the relevant sectors will have to comply with the regulation, but there will also be exceptions, e.g. qualified trust service providers, top-level domain name registrars and DNS service providers will be subject to NIS2 regardless of their size.<\/p>

NIS2 is an improved version of the previous NIS Directive (EU) 2016\/1148, as significant progress has been made in increasing the Union's cyber resilience since its entry into force. Network and information systems have become a central feature of everyday life with the rapid digital transformation and interconnection of society, including cross-border information sharing.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Member States must be adequately equipped, both in terms of technical and organisational capabilities, to prevent, detect, respond to and mitigate incidents and risks.<\/p>

The directive aims to increase the level of cybersecurity across the EU, ensure a uniform level of security and improve the protection of critical infrastructures. The organisations concerned must ensure the protection not only of their own infrastructure, but also of the supply chains connected to them.<\/p>

The NIS2 directive is expected to apply to more than 2,500 medium-sized and large companies in Hungary. The affected organizations will receive special attention for continuous regulatory monitoring, and security classification by auditors will be mandatory every two years.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
